This treatment will clean out all the tartar, plaque, food debris and bacteria that has gathered in the deep pockets. You may also receive topical antibiotics during this gum treatment, as well. A scaling and root planing treatment can usually help gums to recover from gum disease. Although, sometimes the treatment will need to be repeated more than once. Additionally, it may be recommended that you have periodic periodontal cleanings on a preventive basis. If you develop gum disease, it will never go away by itself. So, it is very important to follow preventive care which includes excellent oral hygiene. And, if you are diagnosed with gum disease, it is important that you come to our dental practice for scaling and root planing treatments. Other periodontal treatments may be needed when there are other types of gum disease present, such as aggressive periodontal disease.
